SDSU Cruises Past Air Force In MWC Tournament Opener Joel Matthews (2-0) led the Aztecs to the win, tossing all nine innings and recording two strikeouts.
May 25, 2005 SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The No. 3-seeded San Diego State University raced out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 21-6 victory over the No. 6-seeded Air Force Academy in the first game of the Mountain West Conference Tournament Wednesday at Franklin Covey Field in Salt Lake City, Utah The Aztecs up to 24-33 for the year and will face BYU Thursday at 11 a.m. The Falcons slip to 9-43 and will play the loser of the Utah/New Mexico match-up Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Joel Matthews (2-0) led the Aztecs to the win, tossing all nine innings and recording two strikeouts. SDSU was led by Quintin Berry who was 5-for-6 at the plate and scored three runs in addition to tallying three RBI. Clayton Couch was pinned with the loss for Air Force. He falls to 0-3 for the year.
